Martin Garcia
Martin Garcia joined the Cincinnati Symphony as associate principal bassoonist in 2011. Prior to his appointment in Cincinnati, he was a member of the Milwaukee Symphony and Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. As an active freelance bassoonist in the Philadelphia area, he has been heard in many concerts with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Philadelphia, in New York at Carnegie Hall, and at their summer homes in Saratoga Springs and Vail.
Mr. Garcia holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he was a scholarship student of Bernard Garfield, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with William Winstead. As a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, Mr. Garcia studied at the University of Vienna with noted bassoon soloist and chamber musician, Milan Turkovic. He also credits Daniel Matsukawa of the Philadelphia Orchestra as a significant influence on his musical career.
Mr. Garcia has participated in the festivals of Sarasota, Florida, in France at the Rencontres musicales d'Evian, in Vienna at their festival of new music, Wien Moderne, the Lakes Area Music Festival (MN), and at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. For three summers, he undertook advanced chamber music study at the Marlboro School and Festival in Marlboro, Vermont, where he collaborated with members of some of America's leading orchestras and chamber music groups.
As an educator, Garcia serves on the bassoon faculties of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory and the Curtis Institute's Summerfest. Previously, he taught at the Temple University Music Prep Division, and continues to maintain a studio of private bassoon students.
