Members of The Knights are proud to partner with Ocean Music Action for a program focused on our complex relationship with water. Toward the Sea, featuring Takemitsu’s composition by the same name, will take place at Bargemusic, which rests on the water at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge.

In a program fit to welcome spring, Eleanor Alberga’s ethereal Shining Gate of Morpheus features Knights hornist David Byrd-Marrow as soloist, and bassist Edgar Meyer joins the orchestra for his Concerto No. 3. Aaron Copland’s evocative Appalachian Spring concludes the evening offering sonorities both uplifting and pastoral.

Magos Herrera Quartet and a string quartet comprised of members of The Knights will present original music produced by Herrera during the COVID isolation. The program will include new arrangements commissioned by Americas Society, songs included in the 2020 album Con Alma, and new original music written by Herrera with support from a Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works grant.

In her return to the National Sawdust stage, Magos Herrera Quartet – as well as a string quartet comprised of members of The Knights – will present "Remanso" with original music produced by Herrera during the COVID-19 isolation.

The dynamic New York-based orchestral collective The Knights is reimagining classical music programming and captivating audiences at every turn. The ensemble’s expansive artistic vision has earned them critical acclaim, a Grammy nomination, and concert tours alongside artists including Yo-Yo Ma and Gil Shaham.

At the center of this concert are two beloved core classical works – Schubert’s ominous, radiant and magnificent “Unfinished” Symphony, and Vaughan Williams’ haunting and exquisite The Lark Ascending, featuring The Knights’ superb Colin Jacobson as violin soloist. Bookending the works are Records from a Vanishing City, an evocative contemporary tone poem with roots in an Angolan lullaby by acclaimed composer and violinist Jessie Montgomery, and the celebratory second symphony by Louis Moreau Gottschalk. The program traverses Manhattan’s Lower East Side in the 1990s and Vienna in the 1820s, illuminates themes of renewal and rebirth, and highlights echoes of Schubert in the work of a Creole-influenced composer, all showcasing the very essence of this thrilling ensemble.

The Knights help to celebrate the vibrant music scene of their home borough at the Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival. A string trio from the Knights perform a family-friendly show with music by Bach, Ravel, Mozart, Beethoven, and Artistic Director Colin Jacobsen.

This outdoor concert takes place in the plaza at 300 Ashland Place in Fort Greene, just a short hop from the Atlantic Ave - Barclays Center and Fulton Street subway stops.
